Talambuhay
Santiago na Dakila ay isa sa labindalawang apostol na pinili ni Hesukristo. Anak ni Zebedeo at kapatid ni Juan, siya ay kabilang sa pinakamalapit na grupo ni Hesus at nasaksihan ang mga mahahalagang sandali kasama ang Transpigurasyon. Matapos ang Pentecostes, si Santiago ay naging isang kilalang pinuno sa Simbahan ng Jerusalem. Ayon sa tradisyon, naglakbay siya sa Espanya upang mangaral, na nagkamit ng titulong Santiago. Bumalik siya sa Jerusalem kung saan siya pinatay ni Haring Herodes Agrippa I noong mga 44 AD, na naging unang apostol na martir. Ang kanyang mga labi ay sinasabing dinala sa Espanya, kung saan ang katedral sa Santiago de Compostela ay naging isa sa pinakamahalagang mga lugar ng peregrinasyon ng Kristiyanismo. Prayer to St. James the Apostle
O glorious Apostle Saint James, great is the honor in which the Church holds you, and great is the confidence with which we have recourse to you. You were chosen by Jesus Christ Himself to be one of His twelve Apostles, and you were privileged to witness His Transfiguration and to be present in the Garden of Gethsemane during His agony. You were the first of the Apostles to shed your blood for the faith, and you became the Protector of Spain and the Patron of pilgrims.
We beseech you, O Saint James, to intercede for us before the throne of God. Help us to follow Christ with the same zeal and courage that you displayed throughout your life. Strengthen our faith in times of trial, guide our steps along the path of righteousness, and protect us on all our journeys, both spiritual and physical. May we, like you, be faithful unto death and receive the crown of eternal life.
Through your powerful intercession, obtain for us the grace to live as true disciples of Jesus Christ, to love God with all our hearts, and to serve our neighbors with charity and compassion. We trust in your protection and your prayers on our behalf.
