Životopis
Cyprian (c. 200-258) was bishop of Carthage and one of Christianity's most influential theologians. A wealthy convert who sold his possessions for the poor, he became renowned for his writings on Church discipline, baptism, and the nature of Christian community. During the Decian persecution, Cyprian withdrew to safety, earning criticism, but he later defended the Church's authority and its power to forgive sins. He vigorously opposed both Novatian's rigorism and the teachings of Stephen of Rome regarding heretical baptism. His theological treatises shaped Catholic doctrine for centuries. During Valerian's persecution, Cyprian was imprisoned, tortured, and beheaded in 258. His extensive correspondence and writings provide invaluable insights into third-century Church life, discipline, and theology. He is remembered as a defender of ecclesiastical authority and Church unity.
