Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917), known as Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American nun who dedicated her life to serving impoverished immigrants. Founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1880, she arrived in New York in 1889 with her community to address desperate conditions among Italian immigrants. Despite facing poverty, prejudice, and ecclesiastical resistance, she established orphanages, schools, and hospitals across America and Europe. A tireless fundraiser and administrator, she secured resources and secured land for her institutions through determination and faith. Mother Cabrini founded 67 institutions serving over 100,000 people by her death. She became the first American citizen to be canonized, embodying practical charity and entrepreneurial spirit in service of the vulnerable.
