Životopis

Francis de Sales (1567–1622) was a French Catholic bishop, spiritual director, and Doctor of the Church renowned for his gentleness and pastoral wisdom. Born into nobility in Savoy, he studied law and theology before being ordained a priest. Appointed Bishop of Geneva in 1602, he worked tirelessly to reconcile lapsed Catholics and evangelize Protestants through compassion rather than force, earning him the title 'Apostle of the Alps.' He founded the Visitation order with Jane de Chantal, dedicated to spiritual development and service to the poor. Francis authored influential spiritual works, including 'Introduction to the Devout Life,' which presented spirituality as accessible to ordinary people, not just monks and clergy. His approach emphasized love of God, patience, and understanding. He is venerated as a Doctor of the Church for his theological contributions and pastoral example. His gentle, encouraging style revolutionized spiritual direction and remains influential in Catholic teaching on spirituality and communication.
