Životopis
Francis Xavier (1506-1552) was a Spanish Jesuit priest and one of the most influential Catholic missionaries in history. A founding member of the Society of Jesus under St. Ignatius of Loyola, Xavier dedicated his life to spreading Christianity in Asia. Beginning in India, he traveled to Goa, the East Indies, and Japan, establishing Christian communities and converting thousands to the faith. His missionary method combined genuine respect for local cultures with passionate evangelization. Xavier was remarkably adaptive, learning languages and customs while maintaining unwavering commitment to Christian doctrine. He died en route to China on the island of Shangchuan in 1552, never reaching his destination. Despite his relatively short mission life of only twelve years abroad, Xavier's impact was extraordinary—he is credited with bringing Christianity to millions across Asia. Canonized in 1622, he remains the patron of Catholic missionaries and a model of evangelical dedication and cultural sensitivity.
