Životopis
John of Kanty (1390-1473) was a Polish priest and academic whose humble sanctity profoundly influenced university life and pastoral ministry. Born in Kanty, he served as a professor of Scripture and theology at the University of Kraków for several decades, becoming renowned for both scholarly excellence and genuine piety. Despite his intellectual prominence, John maintained extraordinary humility and simplicity, giving generously to the poor from his modest income. He undertook three pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem, walking thousands of miles in devotion and penitential practice. Known for his gentle manner, he combined rigorous academic work with deep pastoral concern for students and common people alike. His preaching was marked by clarity and spiritual depth. John lived austerely, practicing severe self-discipline while radiating warmth and encouragement to others. After his death, miracles were attributed to his intercession. Canonized in 1767, he remains a model of the scholar-saint who integrates intellectual rigor with spiritual authenticity and charitable service.
