Životopis

Simon Peter was a Jewish fisherman from Bethsaida who became one of Jesus Christ's twelve apostles. Jesus renamed him Cephas (Peter), meaning rock, declaring that upon this rock he would build his Church. Peter emerged as the leader of the apostles and the Jerusalem community after the Resurrection. He performed miracles, baptized converts, and played a crucial role in the early Church's development. Peter traveled to Antioch and eventually to Rome, where he established the Christian community. According to Catholic tradition, he was martyred in Rome around 64-67 AD under Emperor Nero, crucified upside down at his own request, considering himself unworthy of dying as Jesus did. His relics are believed to rest beneath St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, making him the first pope and foundational figure in the Catholic Church's apostolic succession.
