Životopis

Rita of Cascia (1381-1457) was an Italian Augustinian nun renowned for her devotion and mystical experiences. Born in Umbria, she was forced into an unhappy marriage with an abusive man. During seventeen years of marriage, she endured mistreatment while patiently praying for her husband's conversion and reconciliation. After his murder, she helped reconcile her sons with his killer's family, preventing a blood feud. Following her sons' deaths, Rita entered an Augustinian convent in Cascia at age thirty-six. There she experienced profound mystical grace, including a visible stigma of Christ's crown of thorns that appeared on her forehead. She devoted herself to prayer, penance, and works of mercy, becoming known for miracles and spiritual wisdom. Despite severe illnesses, she maintained unwavering faith. Her life demonstrates redemptive suffering, forgiveness, and transformation through God's grace. She was canonized in 1900 and remains a powerful intercessor for those facing impossible situations.
