Simon, called the Zealot or Canaanite, was one of Jesus Christ's twelve apostles, though biblical sources provide limited biographical details about his individual ministry. The epithet 'Zealot' suggests he may have belonged to a Jewish resistance movement before his apostolic calling. Following Pentecost, Simon participated in the early Church's missionary expansion, though accounts of his specific apostolic labors vary significantly among Christian traditions. Some traditions place his missionary work in Egypt, North Africa, or Persia, while others describe him eventually traveling to the Caucasus region. Early Christian sources consistently affirm his martyrdom, though details regarding the manner and location of his death remain uncertain, with some accounts describing crucifixion and others mentioning other forms of execution.
