Životopis

Charles Borromeo (1538-1584) was an Italian cardinal and archbishop of Milan who became one of the most influential figures of the Counter-Reformation. Appointed archbishop at age 22, he initially lived at the papal court but later moved to Milan to implement the reforms mandated by the Council of Trent. He established seminaries to improve clergy education, reformed religious communities, and personally ministered to plague victims during the 1576-1577 outbreak. Known for his austerity and tireless pastoral work, Charles implemented strict ecclesiastical discipline while showing genuine concern for the poor and suffering. He founded the Oblates of St. Ambrose and influenced Catholic renewal across Europe. His commitment to priestly formation and administrative excellence made him a model bishop.
