Životopis

John Fisher (1469–1535) was an English bishop, theologian, and Cardinal of the Catholic Church. As bishop of Rochester for 31 years, he earned reputation as a brilliant scholar and defender of Catholic doctrine. Fisher staunchly opposed King Henry VIII's break with Rome and his annulment from Catherine of Aragon, refusing to accept the royal supremacy over the Church. Imprisoned in the Tower of London, he remained unwavering despite threats of execution. Created cardinal by Pope Paul III in 1534, Fisher was executed by beheading on June 22, 1535, along with Thomas More. His defense of papal authority and marital indissolubility cost him his life, making him a martyr for Catholic principles. Fisher's courage inspired generations of Catholics facing religious persecution and state opposition.
