Životopis

Nicholas was a 4th-century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia (modern-day Turkey). Born to wealthy Christian parents, he devoted his life and fortune to serving God and helping those in need. Nicholas became famous for his secret acts of charity, particularly his legendary gift of gold to prevent three sisters from being sold into slavery. He was imprisoned during Diocletian's persecution of Christians but survived to be released under Constantine's reign. Known for his strong defense of orthodoxy at the Council of Nicaea, Nicholas earned respect as both a pastoral leader and theological advocate. His reputation for generosity and miraculous interventions spread throughout Christendom, making him one of the most venerated saints in both Eastern and Western Christianity. He died in Myra and became the subject of numerous legends that shaped his enduring popular devotion.
