Životopis
Angela Merici (1474-1540) was an Italian Catholic nun and educator who founded the Ursulines, one of the first religious congregations dedicated to educating girls. Born in Desenzano del Garda, she experienced a vision of Saint Ursula as a young woman that profoundly shaped her mission. Despite becoming blind in her thirties, Angela established a community of consecrated women committed to teaching and moral instruction, revolutionary for the time when female education was largely neglected. The Ursulines expanded rapidly across Europe, providing schooling to thousands of girls from all social classes. Angela's approach emphasized practical pedagogy, individual attention, and adapting to local needs. She was canonized in 1807 and remains celebrated as a pioneer of women's education and an advocate for the marginalized, demonstrating that disability need not limit spiritual contribution or institutional achievement.
