Životopis

Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney (1786-1859) was a French Catholic priest who became renowned for his extraordinary sanctity and devotion to the sacrament of penance. Ordained in 1815 despite academic struggles, he was assigned to the small parish of Ars-en-Dombes near Lyon. There, through decades of tireless ministry, he transformed the spiritually indifferent community into a beacon of faith. Vianney spent up to 16 hours daily hearing confessions, drawing pilgrims from across France seeking his spiritual guidance. His supernatural insights into penitents' sins and his fervent intercession earned him recognition as a saint while still living. He practiced severe mortifications and lived in austere poverty despite his parish's growing prosperity. His canonization in 1925 established him as the patron of priests, exemplifying the profound impact of dedicated pastoral care and sacramental ministry.
