Životopis
Pope Sixtus II (died 258) was a respected bishop of Rome who governed the Church during the Valerian persecution. After only a brief papacy of approximately one year, he was arrested and executed by Roman authorities alongside six deacons: Agapitus, Felicissimus, Januarius, Magnus, Martial, and Vincent. According to tradition, Sixtus II maintained remarkable calm during his arrest, and the deacons followed him to martyrdom with unwavering faith. They were executed on the Appian Way, with historical accounts suggesting beheading as their method of death. Sixtus II was known for his learning, piety, and efforts to maintain Church unity during persecution. His companionship with his deacons demonstrates the communal nature of early Christian witness. These seven martyrs represent the countless faithful who died under Roman imperial persecution, strengthening the Church through their ultimate sacrifice and inspiring generations of Christians to remain steadfast in their faith.
